These shingles are made of a base (organic or fiberglass) that is saturated with asphalt and coated with minerals on one side to resist weathering. The life expectancy of composition shingles depends on the rating (e.g., quality) and ranges from 20 to 30 years.
Metal roof is light weight, durable and long lasting (at least 50 years). It also requires low maintenance and can be installed over existing roof. Excellent in high wind and hail areas it is an environmentally friendly and energy-efficient roofing material. It is also one of the most expensive roof type to install.
EPDM - or ethylene propylene diene Monomer - is a single-ply, synthetic rubber compound mostly used on flat roofs. It's durable, low maintenance and offers excellent hail, high winds, snow and ice protection.
